  37. Sorry, I would second Matt on this. Too much o today's software still honors
  38. the real dinosaur A500. While EsCom offers 200,- DM for A500 / A600 when you
  39. buy a new A1200, the software market should make its own PowerUP-program real
  40. fast.
  41. I do not see any sense in still supporting the A500. Even the A2000 has lost
  42. somewhat of its appeal. I do not see any sense in offering software either
  43. for basic A500 or basic A1200. Personally, I would prefer a cut between software
  44. for basic A1200 and accelerated A1200. Jesus, if every software company had stuck
  45. to "basic A500", there would be no such thing like Wordworth NOR Final Writer.
  46. I am very sad that the venerable A500 has no future, but that is a fact. If we
  47. remain supporting it, we will give away any chance that the Amiga might one
  48. day reclaim its position on top of computing power. Future basic system will be
  49. the A1200, and we should accept the fact that OCS/ECS machines are dead for good.
  50. They might remain in service for a few more years, but spending money for research
  51. and development of soft-/hardware for these systems is insane.
  52. We are switching to the second generation of CPU. We are switching (hopeully) to
  53. the third generation of custom chips, or whatever will make the PowerAmigas Amiga.
  54. We should finally take the step to the second generation of software.
  55. Yes, it was a very attractive thing that the Amiga market did not force its users
  56. to upgrade every year. But right now, we all are forced to move. Right now, it is
  57. upgrade (fast) or die (again). With the current performance of either the A1200
  58. or the A4000T, the Amiga will die again soon. We have clung to old (but nonetheless
  59. fine) hard-/software for a full decade. Now we must be bold enough to let go, and
  60. grab the future.
